UKPN announces first ever alliance

JCP support UKPN to create high performing alliance to deliver £1bn ED1 Capital Programme.

UK Power Networks has taken a bold, progressive approach to the procurement of their latest infrastructure programme - ED1 Capital Programme Delivery Alliance. It is the fi rst time UKPN have set up an alliance, so they required an experienced and skilled collaborative working specialist to help develop and implement its procurement process.

JCP were integral to the selection and upcoming development of the alliance, with the process involving an intense, 2 day selection workshop with the 8 bidders, led by Simon Moran. JCP were able to bring best practice in developing alliances, establishing and implementing robust and effective collaboration.

JCP were asked by UKPN to focus on challenges to delivering the Regulatory and Customer expectations, and stakeholder and asset management engagement.

Simon Vaughan, JCP Managing Director, stated: "This is the first collaborative behaviour procurement in the electricity distribution supply market inside the UK. It sets the bar for all other electricity distributors and transmission suppliers and highlights UKPN's continued commitment to innovation and efficiency."

The successful partners have been named as Amec, Clancy Docwra, Morrison Utilities Services and McNicholas, and will all sign contracts with the distribution network operator in July. The Programme is worth around £1 billion and will be delivered over a seven year period.

The 4 winning partners will work collaboratively to deliver building refurbishment and enhancement of existing 11kV, 33kV, 66kV and 132kV substations and powerlines in London, South and Southeast of England, including efficiencies and innovative ways of working to ensure customers get the best possible service and maintain network availability and reliability.

UKPN distribute approximately 27% of the UK's electricity, serving eight million customers in London, the South East and East of England. They are investing £360m on its networks this year and are responsible for over 130,000 substations and 170,000 km of overhead lines and underground cable network.
